Tooth whitening can drastically improve your smile, but with so many whitening options available, how do you choose the right one? Start by asking your dentist.

Depending on your unique situation, we will offer you either in-office chairside bleaching or take home applications.

Teeth Whitening involves wearing a very thin, transparent plastic tray molded to your teeth, which is used to hold a bleaching agent in contact with the tooth surface.

Your dentist will give you a kit including the custom mouth piece, whitening material, and complete instructions. You’ll need to load the whitening gel into the the trays on a daily basis and wear the trays on your teeth for a specified amount of time. A common treatment plan is to wear them for one hour, once a day, for 14 days, during which your dentist may call you back into the office to check on your progress.

The Tray & Solution

During your first dental visit, we take models of your teeth to create custom trays specifically for your teeth. These trays are made specifically for your teeth and will not fit anyone else’s mouth.?They are made of a very thin, clear plastic material.

The Pros

This is the most proven and effective method of whitening your teeth. In addition to being safe and easy to use, whitening is affordable and has lasting results. It’s also easy to stick with your treatment plan because you can choose the best time to wear the trays each day (such as during a commute, or while watching television).

The Cons

Speak with your dentist should any side effects become bothersome. For example, your teeth may become sensitive during the period in which you are using the whitening solution. Some people also experience soft tissue irritation, either from a tray that doesn’t fit properly or from solution that may come in contact with the tissues.

This procedure can be accomplished in one visit that takes 90 minutes.

1. We place a protective material that shields your gums, tongue and lips, but exposes your teeth.

2. We apply lubricant to any exposed gums for further protection

3. We apply a tooth whitening agent containing a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide.

4. After whitening we can also contour your teeth to improve their shape and polish them.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

Yes. Chairside or take home bleaching does not damage your enamel.

How long does the whitening last?

Whitening is permanent; however, teeth can still become darker, due to age. If you wear take home bleaching trays every six months for 1-2 days, you can bring back that bright color.

Are whitening toothpastes very effective?

No. The active ingredients of bleaching toothpastes are present in much lower concentrations than those in home bleaching kits, and they tend to be immediately washed off the tooth surface by saliva.
